Feeling out of control sucks!
And because it’s stressful, it becomes a drain on our energy and wellbeing.
There are so many aspects of life that we cannot control and should not even try to control.
The main one being the thoughts, feelings, and actions of others.
Sure, we can try to have influence over them, but we’re ultimately not in control of their choices.
We often fall short in our efforts at this one aspect of life that we can control:
While we’re failing at controlling what we can control, we run around wasting energy on what we cannot.
Self-control isn’t easy.
It feels easier (i.e. distraction) to focus outside of ourselves on those other people.
That only requires our complaining and judgement.
But let’s be honest, if we spent a little more of that energy on cultivating our own self-control, we’d see much greater returns on effort.
